After Muladhara, Swadhisthana, Manipura, we have the fourth chakra, Anahata Chakra (Heart Chakra). It is located at the central point of the body with three chakras below and the three above. The Sanskrit word ‘Anahata’ means that which is not (ana) hurt (hata). It indicates that that beneath all the painful past experiences lies a pure and spiritual place where no hurt can intrude.
Located at the centre of the chest, this chakra features twelve petals. Heart (Anahata) Chakra is the storehouse of emotions like love, kindness, devotion and munificence. However, it is also responsible for harbouring the feelings of despair, hate, envy, mistrust and passive anger.
All the scriptures of the world especially the Vedas simultaneously agree that the soul resides within the heart of a person. It is this place you manage all your emotions and feeling like love, compassion and helping others. Therefore, the Heart Chakra is the seat of one’s self and the Divine.
A healthy Heart Chakra means love, compassion for self and others with an empathetic nature with a good immune system. A weak Heart Chakra means animosity, envy, fear and resentment leading to hopelessness. This also results in lack of self-discipline and healthy relationships and over expectations from others. Also, it makes you possessive of your near and dear ones. This embitters the relationships. It creates a lot of doubts, suspicions and struggle between your mind and heart.
Your heart chakra is the residence of your honest inner self which is pure and neutral energy. The ancient scriptures talk about two natures; material and spiritual (consciousness). You experience that spirit or consciousness through this chakra only. A balanced Heart Chakra brings harmony between the matter and the spirit which leads to a sense of responsibility, complete security, confidence and spotless behaviour towards others.
